Direct Primary Care — Primary Care Without the Insurance Middleman

Direct primary care (DPC) is a membership-based primary care model providing ongoing access to Dr. Ashar for routine health management, without insurance billing, prior authorizations, or referral gatekeeping.

Direct Primary Care — How the Model Works

Direct primary care removes insurance as the financial intermediary between patient and provider. Instead of billing insurance for each visit, which drives 15-minute appointments and restricted referrals, DPC operates on a direct-pay relationship. Patients have greater access to their provider, more time per appointment, and care decisions made on clinical merit rather than insurance criteria.

At Tactus Health, direct primary care provides ongoing health management for patients who want a primary care provider who knows them, has time for them, and is not constrained by what an insurance company will reimburse. Our providers manage chronic conditions, coordinates specialist care, order labs, adjust medications, and provides the continuity of care that produces better long-term health outcomes.

Common Questions

What conditions can be managed through DPC?+

Hypertension, diabetes, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and most common chronic conditions. Dr. Ashar also manages the specialty services Tactus is known for (hormones, weight loss) alongside primary care, making Tactus uniquely integrated for patients who use multiple services.

Is DPC right for me if I have insurance?+

Many DPC patients have insurance for hospitalizations and specialist care, and use DPC for their primary care relationship. The DPC fee is not insurance. It is a direct payment for primary care access. Some HSA/FSA plans may allow DPC fees as eligible expenses.

Can you order labs through DPC?+

Yes. Our providers order labs as clinically indicated. As a direct-pay practice, we use direct-pay lab pricing through Quest and Labcorp, which is often significantly lower than insurance-negotiated rates for many standard tests.
