What Alcohol Actually Does to Your Body

A hangover is not simply dehydration. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, alcohol depletes three distinct categories of resources simultaneously: fluids and electrolytes through its diuretic effect, B-vitamins (particularly B1 and B6) through metabolic competition, and anti-inflammatory capacity as acetaldehyde, the toxic byproduct of alcohol metabolism, triggers an inflammatory response throughout the body. The nausea, headache, sensitivity to light, and fatigue of a hangover result from all three simultaneously.

Drinking water addresses only the fluid component. The Hangover Recovery IV addresses all three. A full liter of saline with electrolytes restores fluid and electrolyte balance faster than oral rehydration. B-vitamins replenish what alcohol depleted. Research on acetaldehyde inflammation documents the inflammatory cascade that drives hangover symptoms. Toradol, a prescription-strength NSAID, reduces this inflammatory response directly. Zofran, an antiemetic, stops the nausea quickly. Most patients who receive this drip while actively experiencing a hangover report significant relief before their session is finished.

Toradol and Zofran Need a Clinical Setting

This is not the drip menu item to pick up at a pop-up. Toradol and Zofran are prescription medications administered under standing clinical orders at our Sugar Hill clinic at 1400 Buford Hwy NE Suite K 2. The drip is built for the patient who arrived nauseous, dehydrated, and looking for actual clinical recovery, not a placebo bag of vitamins.

Call (678) 892-9230 ahead of arrival so we can confirm a chair is open. Same-day appointments are the standard for this drip.

Dr. Ashar holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice and two national board certifications, one in family practice and one in psychiatric mental health.

She founded Tactus Health to close the gap she watched her own family fall through: symptoms that were real, labs that came back normal, and no one willing to connect the two.

She is responsible for the protocols our medical team follows, and for the training of the clinicians who deliver them. Holding both certifications is why those protocols treat hormones, mood, sleep and metabolism as one system rather than five separate appointments.

Hangover and Recovery IV FAQ

What is Toradol and why is it in the hangover drip?

Toradol (ketorolac) is a prescription-strength NSAID significantly more potent than over-the-counter ibuprofen. The headache and body ache of a hangover are driven by an inflammatory response to acetaldehyde. Toradol addresses this inflammation directly at a therapeutic level that oral NSAIDs rarely achieve due to slower absorption. It is administered IV under standing clinical orders from our Medical Director.

What is Zofran and how quickly does it stop nausea?

Zofran (ondansetron) is a prescription antiemetic that blocks the serotonin receptors involved in the nausea reflex. When administered IV it typically produces noticeable nausea relief quickly. For patients who cannot keep anything down during a severe hangover, IV Zofran provides relief that oral anti-nausea medications cannot because they cannot be kept down long enough to work.

Can I book the hangover IV same-day without an appointment in advance?

Same-day appointments are available subject to chair availability. Given that hangover recovery is typically needed urgently, call (678) 892-9230 before coming in to confirm we can take you. We accommodate same-day hangover recovery appointments whenever possible.

Is the hangover drip safe with a bad headache and nausea?

Yes. The drip is designed specifically for this state. The IV line means you do not need to take anything orally. The Zofran addresses nausea quickly. The Toradol addresses the headache and inflammatory pain. The saline restores fluid and electrolyte balance. Most patients who arrive feeling unable to function leave feeling significantly better.

Can I book a hangover drip preventively before drinking?

Booking the Energy and Hydration drip or a B-vitamin IV before a night of drinking can reduce the severity of the next-day hangover by starting with fully replenished B-vitamins and optimal hydration. This does not prevent all hangover symptoms but does reduce their intensity for most patients.

Are there any reasons I should not book the hangover drip?

Toradol is not appropriate during pregnancy, for patients with active ulcers, severe kidney disease, or a history of NSAID-related GI bleeding. Pregnant patients and those with these conditions can still receive a modified version of the drip without Toradol. Disclose all medications and conditions at intake so the clinical team can adjust the protocol accordingly.
