Sermorelin — Important Safety Information

What Is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin acetate is a synthetic analogue of endogenous growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH). It stimulates the pituitary gland to produce and release growth hormone through the body’s own natural feedback mechanisms. Sermorelin is compounded by FDA-registered 503A pharmacies and administered via subcutaneous injection. It is not synthetic human growth hormone (HGH).

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to sermorelin acetate or mannitol
• Hypothyroidism (untreated): reduces the response to sermorelin
• Active malignancy: growth hormone stimulation is contraindicated in patients with active cancer
• Pregnancy

Warnings and Precautions

• Fluid Retention: Growth hormone stimulation can cause transient fluid retention, particularly in early treatment. Monitor patients with cardiac or renal conditions.
• Glucose Metabolism: Growth hormone has counter-regulatory effects on insulin. Monitor blood glucose in diabetic patients or those with insulin resistance.
• Hypothyroidism: Untreated hypothyroidism may reduce response to sermorelin. Thyroid function should be evaluated before and during treatment.
• IGF-1 Levels: Monitor IGF-1 during treatment to ensure levels remain within age-appropriate reference ranges. Supraphysiologic IGF-1 levels should prompt dose reduction.
• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Growth hormone stimulation may cause or exacerbate carpal tunnel syndrome. Discontinue if symptoms develop.

• Injection site reactions (redness, pain, swelling) , most common
• Transient facial flushing
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Water retention / mild edema (usually transient)
• Joint discomfort
• Nausea (uncommon)

Monitoring

Our providers monitor IGF-1 levels and relevant metabolic markers during sermorelin treatment to ensure physiologic growth hormone stimulation within appropriate reference ranges.
