VI Peel Precision: Built for Pigmentation
The VI Peel Precision adds tyrosinase inhibitors — kojic acid and other brightening agents — to the standard VI Peel base specifically to address hyperpigmentation. These ingredients block melanin production at the source, working in combination with the peel’s exfoliating and cellular turnover effects to correct existing pigmentation and help prevent its recurrence.
The Precision formula is formulated with darker skin tones in mind. One of the concerns with aggressive peels on melanin-rich skin is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), where the skin responds to treatment by producing more pigment. The Precision formula’s brightening agents work to prevent this while treating existing discoloration. It is safe and effective across all Fitzpatrick skin types when applied correctly by a trained professional.

Yes. The Precision formula is specifically designed with ingredients that reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, making it suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types IV-VI. Cynthia will assess your skin type at consultation to confirm the right formula and whether a pre-peel preparation protocol is needed. In some cases, skin conditioning before treatment reduces the risk further.
Melasma is a chronic condition that responds to treatment but requires ongoing management. A series of 3 Precision treatments spaced 4 weeks apart typically produces significant improvement. Maintenance treatments and consistent SPF are important for long-term results since melasma can recur with sun exposure or hormonal changes. If the Precision formula does not produce sufficient improvement, Cynthia may recommend progressing to Precision Plus.
The Precision formula already addresses both aging and pigmentation in a single treatment. If you have particularly pronounced wrinkles alongside significant pigmentation, Cynthia may recommend alternating between Precision and Advanced formulas across a treatment series. This is discussed and planned at your consultation based on which concern is primary for you.
Sun spots (solar lentigines) are caused by UV exposure and appear on sun-exposed areas like the cheeks, forehead, and hands. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is caused by skin trauma — acne, injury, or even prior treatments — and appears where the skin was previously inflamed. Both respond to the Precision formula, but the treatment approach and maintenance plan differ. PIH from prior acne is common and often motivates patients to seek the Acne Formula plus Precision combination. Cynthia will identify which type you have at your consultation.
It is not optional — it is essential. After a Precision peel, the new skin is more sensitive to UV exposure and pigment recurrence is significantly more likely without consistent sun protection. Georgia’s sun intensity amplifies this risk. Cynthia will provide specific post-peel SPF and skincare instructions. For melasma patients especially, daily broad-spectrum SPF 50+ is a non-negotiable part of the long-term maintenance plan.
